Hi all. Attached are images of a new bow saw I just completed.

The main frame is made of Huon Pine and the handles are Blackwood.

Bow Saw was stress tested to 8.5 kg , and the total weight is 0.34 kg.

Regards Swagman.

I've never used one of these. What do you use it for? What is the scale of it? is it like a coping saw or like for sawing logs? How do you keep the blade tight? Is it a show piece or something you use in the shop?

Looks nice, not so used to tools being in a light coloured wood though.

Hi woodsworth.

The saw is used for cutting out curve work - similar to a coping saw. Blade is 12 inches. The handles have an internal thread - by turning them it tightens the blade. This is not a show piece - its built to use.

Nice swagman...very attractive tool! I love the lighter woods in tools...your's is the top of the range in looks!

I take it the pine is quite a flexible wood and the turning of the handles at both end puts tension on the flex of the bow and tensions the steel?

I wouldn't mind a few shots of you using this if you have any....

I like to cut my thin guitar woods by hand using a fret saw....just a metal one...so this would be a nice addition to my arsenal if this were to work the same way...

Interested in the two handles though...that's why I am asking for technique of use.

Hi Jim. Can you be a little bit more specific on what you want to know about the handles.!

Well...on my fret saw I have one handle one side and use it like a saw up and down...I was wondering about the use of two handles...

Jim

This is no different to how you hold your fret saw. The far handle only comes into use when removing or replacing the blade.

Darn it! I was hoping you were going to say you have a tiny Cornish Pisky on the other end! :D

So...how big is this example?

Jim. You had me scratching my head on the Cornish Pisky. Had to do a search on Google to find the meaning. Are they a "fairy" common sight over your way.!!!!

HA! I was going to say leprechaun but I couldn't spell it and anyway my wife and kids are Cornish so that had to be the example.

So...this saw is small in size then?

Hi Jim. Minus the handles, the frame (tensioned) is 335H X 350W.
