New Axminster catalogue

My first ever full Axminster catalogue appeared on the doorstep this morning, all shiny and new looking. It was screaming out to me to open it up and start shopping.

It was bad enough before, but no I have the catalogue this is going to get more expensive

Personally, I call it the 'crackminster' catalog due to its highly addictive nature.

I find that one of the worst things with Axminster, is that free delivery after you spend £45 plot!
Most of the time I only want £20-£30 worth of goods, but I always make up to the £45 to get my free delivery!

I don't know about having to make orders up to £45. I've been browsing for half an hour and already have a shopping list of nearly £2k.

Now I wonder if HID will let me place that order...?

No doubt I wont get mine for another 6 months or until I ask them 4 or 5 times which ever is the later.

Had to make room on the bookshelf by chucking out 05 and 06 catalogues

That is a good point Brad. I almost always make my order up to £45 to get the free delivery. I have a 15 - 20 mile round trip to get to my local Screwfix trade counter or B&Q (in opposite directions too) so the fuel cost alone will be around £2, not to mention the time it takes and the temptation to "pick up" a few other items while you are there.

*also raises hand* - I take ridiculous pride in getting as close to £45 as possible. #-o 'Course, like Mike, no doubt I won't see the new catalogue for weeks. :roll:

I must be the only one that has trouble bringing my amount DOWN to the £45 amount.

Fizzy, i'm with you. I always find it difficult to keep it anywhere as low as £45.

Recently I wanted to buy some parts for a router-table, got to nearly £100 before I realised I could make half of it for almost a tenth of the cost.

Alf, I have two catalogues, would you like me to send you one?

Gidon, does that mean I can send you all my scraps and you'll return them in nice brickuette form? I've always wanted lots of rounded bits of wood, and at the price, a bargain!!

I used to when the limit was £30 but £45 gets a bit steep when we have a half decent too shop in town so I tend to go there instead unless I need something really big. Thinking about it I am not sure that I have ordered from Axminster since they increased the limit and seem to have got out of the habit of reaching for the catalogue.

I don't have a problem with a £45 minimum for 'free' postage. There's always some consumables that need stocking up & I'm slowly building up my selection of clamps (onto pipe clamps at the moment) which I buy as & when necessary to bring the order up to size.

If I had a stockist I liked nearby then I probably wouldn't buy mail order. There's probably several, but I haven't found one yet.

BB, that's very kind of you but the cost would be too great. First to post it, but more importantly 'cos I'd feel obliged to place an order. :lol: Besides this annual (bi-annual now) battle of wills with these tool-mongering Devonians to extract the means to give them money is starting to become something of a sport. :wink:
