Hello,

I have been glued to this forum for the past 48 hours so decided to join. I have been considering purchasing a scroll saw for such a long time but managed to get side tracked with all the other crafts that I like to do.

You all show such enjoyment and knowledge of scrolling that you have renewed my yearning to get involved in this great form of woodworking.

I have managed to read to page 40 of this forum and have decided that I really want to buy a decent scroll saw. I have been to the Hegner UK site and would really appreciate if anybody could advise me on which model would be a good choice for a beginner that does not want to attempt one type of project but many. I would be inclined to wait a while and save for a Hegner as once I commit to a new craft I generally stick with them so I don't mind waiting a while if it means I will get a machine that will go the distance. I also have two children that I would aslo like to teach and learn along with myself.

You are all such an inspiration and many thanks :D

correction I read to page 36 of this forum - the end I think - gone boggley eyed from reading!

Hi loftyhermes,

I love the Excaliburs especially after watching Steve on sdgood on YT. He does good videos on the excaliburs and the more generic brands. I like the way the arm tilts rather than the table on the excaliburs too.

The thing is the only thing I can get my hands on here in Ireland are Records/Clarkes and I dont like what I have read about those brands for scroll saw. I can get Hegners here but entry level is just under 800 Euros which about £700 and that is for a single speed Hegner.

I would be looking at parting with about £1000 for a multispeed Hegner here. Shipping from the UK would probably work out the same as just buying a Hegner here.

Thanks for your reply and I must agree I really do like the Excaliburs but I don't have any hand on experience with any of them!
