Hi,

I bought a bandsaw on ebay last week just for roughing down some blanks for wood turning. I need a new TV stand and I have a ton of pine lying round so I thought I'd use that and make some kind of ikea rip off but after realising that the blade had come off in transit and re-mounting it, I began to cut the pine planks and the saw just slowed down to a crawl.

I've never used one before, and I'm just using the blade that came with it which seems sharp enough. I tried tightening the blade up but at some point that just stops the engine again. I don't want to do too much because I'm scared of doing permanent damage to the saw or myself. I feel like even if the saw was complete garbage it should be able to cut some SPF.

The saw is a Rexon BS2301A. I read a couple of decent reviews on it, but in all honesty I bought it because it was close and cheap.

Any help anyone could give me on troubleshooting bandsaws would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Well everyone on here will tell you to buy a Tuffsaws blade, suitable for the job you have in mind.
You also need to learn how to set it up properly. There are free videos on YouTube, like the Snodgrass one which everyone is raving about and which is destroying my business, quite frankly, because I also provide resources, but mine are not free as I have to eat. But there is a lot to learn. The YT ones will get you started, it depends on how far you need to go, really.

Start with a good blade and go from there.

I'd say that if the machine is stalling, either the blade is too fine, too blunt, or the drive belt is too loose.

it looks to be a fairly good item,

with that air nozzle blowing dust in your face, I would say you must wear a mask whenever using it.
But having gone through the trials of learning bandsaws only last year, you are almost certainly expecting too much of it in terms of speed of cut. If the blade is blunt, it will wander side to side in the cut. If the bearings are not adjusted properly, it will also wander. If its cutting straight but slow, then you need patience on anything over 2" deep because manufacturers are very optimistic in their performance claims.
(I am waiting on a tuff saws delivery, on recommendations from here)
