Hi,

I am pretty new to this (woodworking) but I am intending to make a stand for the tv. It's a 46" flat screen, and I want to have some space for skybox, media centre etc.

I've done a mock up in sketchup (without much detail) of the rough shape.

Can anyone advise me on the the best way to support it?

Do i build a frame 4 50x50 for the uprights etc?
or
Do I just use solid 18mm mdf for the base, top and sides?

Also any advice on wood to use would be great..

Regards,

Ryan

Can't see your design but I doubt you'd need 50mm unless it's part of the design which, by the wording of your post, it's not.

Depending on the design you shouldn't need anything more than 18mm panels, properly joined (glue & screw or biscuit or similar), ensuring you have bracing sections to stop it collapsing. That's what's supporting my TV - a 36" CRT (i.e. it weighs a ton)!
