Here is a picture I found on the web so may of course be tosh but assuming it's genuine can you name that wood (behind that man)

I'm going with sapele or bubinga - Gilmer Wood have had some huge bubinga planks looking like that, but figure looks more sapele-like....

I'm pretty sure it's Mahogany, and might associated with a legendary tree in Honduras. I remember a story circulating about an extremely large mahogany tree that was felled but at the time couldn't be retrieved from the bush. Couple decades later some guy went looking for the rumoured tree and was able to get it out. I've seen a few planks go up for sale over the decades that are attributed to that legendary tree.

I dunno so much. The distance between fingertips of a man's outstretched arms, is roughly equal to his height. So looking at that guy, I'd say he was a six footer? Would he be longer than the plank is wide? Difficult. But it's a big plank for sure. In fact, at first glance it looks like an 8 x 4 sheet?
