Alright all you woodworking wizards, here's one for you to try, just a bit of harmless fun. Name this machine:

NametheMachine.jpg

The clues are that it was manufactured during the 1950s for a trade which has all but disappeared since and that it is definately a woodworking machine. I've certainly never seen one of these in the UK, although I have seen similar machinery used outside of woodworking. If it helps the name on the top is Sagar Bursgreen Ltd

A few guesses from me:

Lollipop stick maker
paper slicer
Woodcut printer..

thats all I can think of right now..

Well, you're getting tantalisingly close..... I like Lord Nibbo's suggestion - sadly not the real purpose, but I do like it

Congratulations, Nick, it was indeed a wooden box printer used by loads of firms in the days when bottles went into crates not cardboard cartons.

This was one of the first machines i used when i left school....it wasnt used for printing orange boxs though it was for printing the name of a bakery onto the sides of breadboards. That looks similar but the one i worked had a slightly different stencil typeset.
I also hated the ink...it stayed on your fingers for weeks if you managed to get any onto your fingers
I also worked the dovetailer before it went into the printer....that was a while ago now.
Would you beleive the company are still going with all the machinery still in place albeit it hasnt been used for years as the company diversified into differnt things when the plastic breadboards came out.

nice one scrit
