You do realise that at the turn of the century Stanley set up a whole experimental division devoted to the Mysteries of the Mind, including gazing into crystal balls, right? They foresaw how mixing up parts, casting styles and blades would mess with our heads and thus leave us open and vulnerable to their marketing cunning. The US government took over the program during WW2 and it went on to be a vital weapon in the Cold War - the USSR tried to counteract the mass appeal of the Bailey plane by making their own version of the Record 043 in a bid to split NATO, but it never really had a chance. Of course, without their insights into the human mind, everything fell apart for Stanley after that. Don't believe me? Well I put it to you that clearly this mastery of Mind Control is the only explanation of how they managed to sell all those #75s...
On a more serious note (yes, I can do those) in addition to the fact that the planes weren't built to a type study, the type study itself was based (iirc) solely on the #4 plane anyway.
