Hi folks,
It's good to be back even if the weather is making me feel like doing very little!

Now, I found the following item on ebay... 290129160678
I have an 'Acorn' plane myself, but with a black body and I have an old smoother, in need of restoration, with a red painted body. This one has a plain cast cap iron.

Does anyone know about these planes please and could someone take a look at this item and put me right on Stanley/Chapman planes ? I would be most obliged.

Thanks in anticipation

Alf must be having a lie-in!

I saw that on the bay, it's odd as it says 'Made in England' and seems to have a standard English Stanley iron, but Chapman Tools seems to be a US company.

Funnily enough, Smudger...

Just think, while you were waiting you could have used the search facility. And behold, more than you probably want to know here.

Cheers, Alf

Thanks Smudger and Alf.

On the subject of 'inferior' quality tools, versus recognised first-class brands:

I bought some 14" 'G' cramps from Trego Mills, some years ago. The cramps were made in China. I bought a dozen at £2.50p each. They were probably cast, rather than forged, but they still perform well.

I'm not saying we shouldn't buy good quality tools when we can, but how many of us could really afford 14" 'G' cramps from Record etc.?

At the end of the day, all I need is a cramp. So long as I don't tighten these beyond the strength of the 'G' they will outlive me!

Cheers and thanks again.

John
