Hello

I have a myford ml8.
It has become apparent that the centres are not accurately aligned. I have some 'slop' in the tailstock to get near but I cannot get it exact. This has become apparent when trying to chuck a sphere in a cup chuck.

How do I re align the head stock as the bed runs through and appears to have no adjustment.

Thank you in advance for your response.

Regards Sue

If it is in a vertical plane there must be some distortion in the bed or damage to the tailstock. In either case replacement is the only answer. If it is in the horisontal plane are you pushing the tailstock back before you lock it on the bed. The only register is the pin in the slot in the bed which is poor and may have worn. The pin can be replaced. The other possibility is that the bed has rotated in the headstock which is fixable.

Ah ha !!

Took the tail stock saddle off to inspect the register pin. The only pin as such is the bolt passing through the saddle.

What I did notice though was a build up of dust 'snots' on the underside of the saddle. I cleaned these off with some silicone spray and 500 grit wet & dry. The whole thing seems to sit much firmer and sighting it through the head stock spindle it seems to be in line. There exists still some movement in the tail stock around the circumference of the bed but this is acceptable I think.

Thank you for the information.

Glad you've got it sorted. The tailstock location is not wonderful on ML8's, nor is the bed design which drove me mad by constantly filling with shavings.
