Like it a lot, Greggy - that is wild grain. Kit is nice too - did you source it in England? My efforts today have been a bit disappointing - probably too many fumes from turning resin pens :shock:

stewart, i got the kits from the usa because you can post the cap on the pen. but turners-retreat sell these but they are not postable. about £17.00

Thats great Colin :D It doesn't even look like wood! more like acrylic, fantastic job,fantastic colour :D Looks like it was a very sucessful trip into the shed.

Very well done, I like the kit very much. Who supplies it? Craft Supplies US?

yes tom they do. but i wait for a group buy, so get em even cheaper.
thanks for the replies guys.

As a pen it looks great but I agree that it looks like acrylic. I thought it was until I read the words. Be interesting to see the wood in something larger dyed the same way. It's very effective. What dye or stain did you use?

Pete

I made my first pen yeaterday, but the finish is nowhere near that, yours is fantastic. What then, is CA/BLO? I have a feeling this may help me!

Thanks for the link to your supplier. I've just had a Baron kit delivered from the The Tool Post - didn't know anyone in England supplied them. I think they also carry a few of the other kits you can get in USA - they have a website but I couldn't find the kits on it! They supply all the kits that this German firm have.

CA = Superglue
BLO = Boiled Linseed Oil

;)
Thanks

Could you enlighten me more? You put a mixture of these on, or coat it in the glue and then oil? This is (another) new idea!

pete, the blank was already dyed when i got it, i also got some in green, and one in gold.
