Yesterday was my mums 80th birthday and as she loves wood we wanted to do something different.
I managed to get hold of a 1928 half crown and a very nice pice of sycamore from Nigel at English Hardwoods.
I turned a platter with the coin in the centre, it then went on a round Britan trip to get members of the family to sign it then back to me for finishing.
It measures 18 1/2" x 2 1/2", the front is finished with Chestnut finishing oil and wax. The back was a bit more difficult as I had to find a finish that wouldnt affect the signatures, I finally used a good quality beeswax which has done a good job.
As I had some wood left over I turned a couple of mementoes for my brother and sister. There measure 8 1/2" x 2 1/2" and are finished with sanding sealer and wax.
