There was me bad-mouthing my politicians and enjoying their discomfort as more expenses data was released but how was I to know it was the Expenses System's fault because our politicians have been struggling to cope with its drawbacks and never once did anyone complain. Now Mr. Brown and Mr. Cameron are apologising for their party members' actions ... how unfair, they should be congratulating them on their stoicism and the absolutely superb job each seems to have done. This country is in great hands because if our politicians can be so diligent and thorough about something as trivial as expenses just imagine how hard they work on the big issues.

I can't wait until the next election but I just wish I could vote for them all, I love them.

On another unrelated topic - I got a parking ticket yesterday but it was my car's fault.

I can better that.

Just got a ticket for doing 37 in a 30 zone, but, again, the car was at fault so I thought I might deduct the fine next time it wants its' road tax renewed!!

Road tax? Road tax? How much is that to the mile? What else will they tax?

But having read the latest and seen some of the responses I have to say that party politics have never been such fun.
Mind, it's damned unfair on the ones who haven't played the system.

The long arm of the law generally allows 10% leeway... the unpalatable fact is you were speeding. Sorry, no sympathy - Rob

I was talking with my Dad about this today.

We figured that and MP should declare their second home (if it is deemed necessary to have one) and that should remain so until they cease to be an MP, so no flipping.

If they claim any expenses towards that home for maintenance works, improvements and the like then they should have to pay it back if they sell the home within three years of the last claim.

Any furniture claimed for should last the duration of their term of office and so not need to be replaced even when they move home (have they not heard of furniture removal companies?).

They should not be able to claim for anything that they would have used if they had not been in office like toiletries, clothes, food, etc.

Perhaps they should use the same expenses claim form and allowance that any other public service employee is bound by.

If they defraud the Inland Revenue then they should face the same penalties as anyone else.

All this nonsense about claiming for the running costs of a second home could be resolved with a simple rule change.

MPs should be able to claim back the rental cost of a modest furnished home in London for use while working at Westminster.

That's it. End of.

I would allow MPs to buy a London home, rent it to themselves and have the tab for the rent picked up, but the rental paid to them would be at a market level as established by independent surveyors. If this was insufficient to cover the mortgage - tough *****. They could always sell up and rent somewhere else. I am personally affronted by the sight of MPs profiting from the rise in equity of a home for which I have helped pay the mortgage.

Needless to say, all MP's primary residence would be asumed to be in their constituency.

Sky are now reporting that Hazel Blears is repaying £13332 to the Inland Revenue. I wonder if they will accept it and leave it at that?

Easier still, follow the rules that the Scottish Parliament use , as outlined on Skynews this afternoon.

Apparently Jenx she's been flashing the cheque in front of the press.
IF the earlier reports are correct she either was less than honest with the IR or the expenses commission.
Probably not the only one.
Quite a few of all parties could find themselves being deselected next time around as well as a result of this.
The Speaker says he's going at the next election as well, if he isn't pushed out before hand that is.

Definately Roy ...
after reading a lot about the Bilderbergs / Tri-Lateral Commission / CFR over the last week or so... I wouldn't trust one of them with a penny.
The biggest collection of corrupt individuals in one place ( westminster, I mean ).. and every snout will be in the trough.

They are nothing short of a national disgrace and a national embarrasment.

And to think - this is nothing new.. it's been going on for one heck of a long time, for sure.
It'll run into millions - the sums of money that these charlatans, both now and in the past, have effectively 'stolen' from the people of this country.

Awful, dispicable, dishonest rogues ... regardless of the colour of their rosettes.

Check your local MP. Click on 'expenses' and it reveals the total claimed over the last few years. Not quite 'fair' to compare between MP's due to differing circumstances but it does give an indication.
The Beast of Bolsover comes out of it well.

Can't stand Dennis Skinner's politics, but as an individual I respect the man enormously and that comes as no surprise at all, and I wouldn't mind betting he will have a few choice words to say in the house.
