They look fantastic ! I like the shape of the handle as well ;)
 
Really nice. Are the handles laminated?
I keep looking out for cheap plastic ones with stainless liner to cannibalise and have a try, but the result won't be up to your standard.
 
I'm getting my first lathe in the next fortnight and then I'm going to pester you until you give me a step by step walk through.
To be honest I think that these are the first useful things I've seen come from a lathe. That they are also extremely cool to look at as well makes them project numero uno in my opinion.

By the way, that statement doesn't mean I don't like bowls and weird spalted droopy stuff - I'm always hugely impressed by the quality of turning on this forum.
 
Hey zed if you do a search there is a wip I did for these, I have tweaked the process a bit but it's basically the same. Main improvement is that the handles are now screwed from the inside (and glued with epoxy) before the metal liner is glued in.
 
Another couple of nice mug holders. I will not be adding that to the to do list as I already have so much on it that I want to do as it is
