Home made friction polish, anyone else tried it?

I mixed up a batch of it yesterday, and used it on a little Yew bowl I turned today. I have to say I'm quite impressed with it. Forgot to bring the ruddy bowl in from the shed, but the finish is nice & shiny.

It's equal parts of shellac, denatured alcohol, and boiled linseed oil.

Funnily enough, tonight I added some boiled linseed oil to my blond shellac mix, (shellac and meths) for use as french polish, I'd read that the addition of the oil made the french polish dry at a slower rate.

I got the alcohol on ebay. It is used for cleaning normally. For shellac polishes, they say to use clear meths which is the same thing I believe. Not sure if using the purple meths would make any difference other than colour.

If it helps, the purple dye in meths fades in sunlight. So if you buy normal meths and leave on a bright window sill it'll go clear in time.

I confess I am a wood womble too.

My worst is pallets, all that wood just stroon all over the country... not fulfilling it's woodly destiny
(pictures coming soon on the projects board of some fulfilling it's destiny!)
Best bit is I've got my brother into it as well now and he's the pallet wood shelf king now!.... so proud!!

Only my patented cold cure.
50% dark rum, 50% green ginger wine
Drink massive quantity until you pass out. Get other half to bury you under a pile of duvets & sleeping bags and sweat it out.
