My shed is 3.4m wide
but i have a unit in corner that reduces it to 2.8m
problem now is cutting down a 2.4 length with no wiggle room left or right
has anyone put a saw on runners?
so i can pull it forward to get that extra 600mm of cut in front of my corner unit

i could then have 2.2m to the left of blade and 1.2m to the right which means the smaller cut i could get from a 2.4 is 200mm

a 5m shed would be ideal but it is not happening

or do i build a mobile base with wings?
i would need to slide the saw forward by 500mm

anyone creative that has already faced this issue?

I put my Dewalt on heavy duty drawer runners. The problem was it still took a lot of space. a movable cabinet may be better. In the end I sold my Dewalt and bought the Festool Kapex. The space behind the fence line can then be used as storage.

this is for a kapex
but i need to pull it forward for a full length cut
it can sit back for shorter cuts

A base on wheels would be my route if you need to extend 600mm and then have wood sat on top it would need to be very well secured and be capable of very large loads. You also need to support the wood at the ends. It all starts to take a great deal of space and planning

I wouldn't worry too much about the weight, the Kapex only weighs about 22kg.

I would suggest a mitre saw stand like the one pictured below (mine cost about £80). Then make a frame using 25mm x 75mm using glue and pocket screws which is made to fit the external dimensions of the legs of the mitre stand when fully open. (make the pocket screws fit in the top 50mm of the joint to give space for the mounting screws to be fitted 1" #12s) Then mount some PU Vinyl 2" Locking castors to the underside of the frame and then sit the mitre stand legs directly on top of the castors within the frame. Then you have a) a moveable stand with locking castors and b) the outfeed support you might need for your lengths of wood.

Castors can be bought here (max 240kg weight): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-X-Heavy-Dut ... 234d72bd68

Don't worry about the strength of the frame/castors as I mounted all my large power tools on them previously, including my Table Saw, Planer/Thicknesser and Bandsaw. Every item was much heavier than a Kapex/Mitre Saw Stand combined, so do not have any illusions about them not being strong enough. The weight is all taken by the plates of the Castors, the framework is just to keep the casrors and legs in place. If you were worried further you could make a hole in each leg and using a long bolt, bolt them to the frame.

Kapex on Mitre Saw Stand:

Ed if the Kapex is supported like yours and mine then the weight is not a worry but the OP asked about putting it on drawer runners that extend 600mm. At that point weight is a big issue. Think of levers

I see the issue with the weight \ leverage

I will move the corner unit...my electric cupboard...should be fun

True, but even that is not an issue if you make a couple of legs to support the weight when it is pulled out. They could even be attached with hinges to the underside and then depolyed when required.
