Hello all
I have not posted for months and also the lathe has been standing idle  busy.. busy.. kid.. work.. all that nonsense.
Anyway I am back in the saddle now and raring to go.
I am looking to buy a mini lathe for my classroom at work and have two in mind.
The Scheppach dmt450 and the Aximinster m330.
Do any of you have any experience of either? I have tried the aximinster one and found it nice to use but the Scheppach is new to me.
Any help would be great, thanks
Rich
PS. Hello to CHJ and Yorkie T

Wondered where you had got to Rich, any progress on the shed re-org this "summer" ?

Hi Rich.

I have owned a M600 for 3 years and can't fault it when used within its capabilities. So IME I don't hesitate in recommending a M330/600 to anyone who wants a mobile lathe.

Not used nor seen the Scheppach - but have the Axminster, a great little machine - quite a compact, heavy mass to lift (...if you see what I mean) but easily transportable.

Build quality isn't great - I managed to snap the tool post off at the neck with a 'snag' but there again the price ticket is reasonable.

Chris.

Thanks for your comments guys.

I have gone for the record DML 305 in the end, I have seen good review in a turning mag and it looks good, nice when it is not your own money
I will post a picture and tell you what it is like when it arrives.

Chas
The glos workshop is still in chaos, a new roof needs to be sorted before any serious progress can happen.

Looks good...

but 10kg heavier than the M330 nett weight

Have you gone for the stand as well Rich? I'd be interested in the max height ... couldn't see dimensions on the Record site...

Hello all.
The lathe arrived today :D it looks and sounds nice. I had just ten minutes to start a vanity mirror at the end of the day. The cedar smelt fantastic and the new chisels cut like a dream. I will post some pictures soon as I get around to taking them.
Have a good week everyone
Rich

Looking forward to the pix... so glad you're pleased with the lathe..
