DO NOT BUY THIS!!!

I can't believe that Makita actually made this tool. Unfortunately I left too much time from purchasing to using it to send it back due to not being fit for purpose.

1, = Fence, is not straight and probably not square to surface. It bows into the middle, therefore the blade cannot be set square and trimming ends is impossible.

2, Laser, = Not in line with blade from factory and not trustworthy unless set by user. Due to fence issues fairly useless in all uses as it can never be set straight.

3, Table detente's, = When swivelling the table it "clicks" into preset angles. Unfortunately there is up to .5 degree wobble on each detente.

4, Motor intrusion, = Due to the motor, it is impossible to hold onto the workpiece on the left of the cut, there is a position for the work clamp on the left of the motor but it can't actually be used.

5, mounting points, = If all 4 mounting points are used, it is likely that the nut on the front right will stop the table swivelling all the way to the left.

6, Blade change, = It is tricky changing the blade, if a thicker blade is used it is almost impossible to fit, this machine seems to have no thought put into blade changing.

7, Depth of cut, = It was probably in the spec, but this can't cut anything thicker than 60mm.

8, Guard Issues, = The guard will catch on lots of work and is hard to release if using a human hand.

9, Dust Bag, = Very small and had a hole in it, therefore pointless. When connected to extraction a reasonable amount of dust is extracted, but not all,,,,,by any means,

10, worklight = The machine has a work light, If the working environment is poorly lit enough to use the work light, it is far too poorly lit to use this machine.

11, = Extension supports. On either side of the machine there are bent bar extension supports which are removable. These are not level with the work table and cannot be adjusted to meet table level.

The machine undoubtedly has other faults I have either forgotten or not met.

THIS MACHINE IS REALLY CREPE!! It is what I'd expect from a no name budget company, not Makita. I own and use several Makita tools which are to type, primitive but well suited to their tasks, powerful and very well made. THIS IS NOT!

EVERY TIME I USE THIS TOOL I REGRET BUYING IT!!!

Agreed. I bought one a couple of weeks ago and it went back, mainly because of the issue with the side extensions. There does seem to be a gap in the market for a lightweight portable but quality scms. Replaced it with dewalt dw777 which is better but still has its own issues.

I can't believe they're selling that machine.
Your first point basically renders it useless..

My Bosch is also iffy with preset angles.
It's always off ever so slightly off, and I have to then spend time adjusting it myself with the fine adjuster to get it perfect.

See if you can get a LS-1013 instead, you won't be disappointed.

I wonder at tools sometimes. I had a 7 1/4" DeWalt saw that was so poorly designed and badly made as to be dangerous. Even the guy who did the travelling shows admitted it was bad. I felt guilty selling it on. As above, these are major manufactures, not bit players.

If the merchandise is not fit for purpose, it does not matter when the guarantee ran out or how long after purchase you find the faults, as long as it has not been extensively used and shows signs of wear and tear, therefore making it obvious it IS fit for purpose, you should take up your complaint with the manufacturer, they will try to fob you off at first with the guarantee has run out, but persevere and you will get a result, as a last resort try trading standards.

..many many thanks for this post..I am still deliberating, about the best saw to get for £200 - £300 =and this particular saw is (now "was") still on my "possibles list.!!..so a timely post....

..I really can't justify / afford a ore expensive saw, so I am now considering just buying a "cheapie" ..possibly a Evo Rage..(orange one)..?

or Erbauer ERB610MSW..are Erbauer any good....or Metabo?

Don't worry about the distance selling laws if it's not fit for purpose. If you've had it less than a year, the seller has to prove its fit for purpose, if it's after a year of ownership you would have to prove it not fit for purpose. Call the seller explain your problem and ask for a refund. If they refuse write then a 7 days action letter....plenty of examples on the WEB. If this fails take them to small claims, you can do it online in about 5 mins. It costs £50 to lodge, but if you win you get it back, normally a retailer will agree to settle the claim if you have something that's a genuine claim. Good luck

If you paid by credit card you can make a claim through your credit card (normally has to be over £100 cost) , give them a call and inform them of the problem they will normally send a claim form. Takes about 2 months to resolve.

If you paid by PayPal raise a claim, they are in my experience which is extremely limited very quick to resolve issues.

Seconded. Had one since they first came out and it is still spot on with little fettling.

I bought a similar saw (I think it was the 1018L) last year and my experience wasn't dissimilar to yours. In the end I sent it back and somehow persuaded myself a Kapex was worth it! Although it certainly isn't a decision I've regretted at all.

A bit disappointing from a supposed quality brand like Makita.

I've had an LS1018 for a couple of years and I couldn't be more pleased with it. Bob on in all the ways it needs to be and great capacity. The only thing I had to fiddle with was the laser and once I sorted that (a few minutes of adjusting) I promptly never used it (the laser that is) again!
