A big thanks to everyone who turned out today. Thanks for fitting around each other so well during the initial rush, and for being patient.

About 50 cubic feet of oak headed off around the South of England. Some people got some really beautiful wood........but there was a lot more damage (from a lightning strike, apparently) than I was expecting, so some of the larger boards were quite disappointing.

Huge apologies for those that travelled a fair way and didn't find what they wanted........Bloonose in particular. I only had 10 minutes with this pile when I first saw it and could only see the ends of most of the boards.

Anyway, the farmer saw the condition of what remained and so I only had to pay for what you guys had.......there are plenty of good people left despite what you hear sometimes!!!

To anyone who couldn't come today, the only stuff worth considering is the 6"x4" pieces (5 boards 12 to 16 feet long), which are pretty damn good, as is a short piece of 6"x6" (6 feet long).

There are also some very interesting thin pieces, 1/2" to 3/4" by up to 15 inches, by varying lengths, which might suit someone into veneer making or box making.........but you would need access to serious machinery as their thickness varies considerably.

Anyone interested PM me.

Anyway, thanks again for turning out.......this forum has some very interesting and pleasant chaps for members.

Cheers

Mike

hi mike

thanks to you for organising - i can confidently say that i am more than happy with what we got - that stack of 4"x2" x 6' that we had is destined to become ridgeway information board frames, will post some pics when it happens but might be a while as we need to source some 4"x4" x8' to be the legs (Vasterns here we come)

my few bits of 12" x 2" will become bowl blanks as will the two 12" x2" x6' that i took for Miles_hot - he too was more than happy with the produce - but then i guess life is easier for us turners as its pretty easy to fit circles in between cracks etc

I just need to sort out with mr lawrence for him to pick his share up from me now.

thanks again to Mike for organising the day.

Pete (BSM) and Andy

Well done Mike for managing the chaos of people wandering everywhere with large planks of wood and pricing up just the good bits!

Mine is going to have to live in a dry shed for a while until I get round to using it - probably for some garden furniture projects.

A general question for anyone that knows.....Some of it has woodworm holes (in the un payed for sections). As the wood seems completely dry am I right in assuming the bugs are now dead or vacated and as long as it stays dry there will be no problem? Or should I cut out the obvious perforated areas before storing?

I saw someone wandering around with a camera but I let mine stay in the car so no embarrassing pictures from me though I was tempted to get a shot of the strong kid lifting heavy planks with his dad :)

Well that will of been me! :D

I have a number of pictures and the only person I can put a name to is Mike. So if your not too embarrassed by my photographic rendering of you, then say who you are!
I arrived about 10:30, having detoured to buy some hot cross buns, I thought it best to provide the provender that Mike had suggested.
I found a number of vehicles having large lumps of oak stacked on and in them, with Mike busy pricing boards for people.

Long boards were being cut into more manageable bits for loading.

The stack of timber had moved about and gone down, but the need to move the dust to see the timber was still there.

If you want to see all of the pictures I took then look here.

I came away with a bit of 6*4 which will end up on the lathe and some 1 & 1 1/2 that I hope will become a new workshop door over the summer.

Tom don't nag, I don't type very quick, I started this before your comment. ](*,)

Thanks again Mike for organising the sale and it was good to have a chance to meet with you and DaveL. My only disappointment as that people were more interested in the wood than in introducing themselves. No picture of me although my son Jonathan can just been seen next to my van in the first picture. At present I don't have any plans for the wood but I will be sure to post pictures when I do get round to using it.

Cheers,

Steve

Big thanks to Mike.

I got some pieces from nearer the bottom of the pile, but still, I have some cracking pieces and couldn't resist swiping a plane across one or two bits when I got home. The figure is quite amazing and I have a raft of ideas for lots of it already. I'll load some snaps when my camera is charged.

Unfortunately we took a wrong turn and arrived a bit later than most, so you all missed the malted chocolate cookies my girlfriend made.

It really was worth the drive not only for the great timber, but also to see a lovely part of the country.

Thats me with the checked shirt and green trousers. Dave you captured my bald spot stunningly!! Thanks ;-) and my friend Thomas with the gloves who gave me a hand to shift and load the timber.

Thanks once again to Mike for organising. I do hope you managed to get some for your own supply.

Well, I guess I should own up to these two.

The first one is me and my son Mark, with Mike squatting in the background, next to my truck.

The second one is me sifting through the pile!!

Our thanks to Mike for giving up his time and doing a difficult job in such a pleasant manner.

After we got home I took some time to clean up the what I'd got and I've ended up with 3 good size boards plus a huge stack of smaller pieces, so a good result all round.

Thanks again Mike,
