Sent as two emails AVG found a virus win32/heur and stopped it, so DO NOT OPEN THE LINK.

This sounds like the same thing which attacked my laptop earlier this week. It is impossible to close down the screens brought up, and it always leads to a screen asking for CC details to "purchase" the latest AV software.

Gits.

Cheers

Karl

Yeah sounds like the dreaded antivirus 2008/2009 "virus", Ive had to sort out 2 computers in the last week suffering from it, worst thing about it is it looks so convincing to unsuspecting users!

Why is it that no matter how much you tell somepeople to be weary about things they do/open from the web they never seem to listen :?

They would if legislation was passed allowing you to confiscate the PC, clean it up and donate it to a school.

We're far to accomodating towards pillocks who should know better. Give 'em one warning and then for the second 'offence' take away their computer.

Oh dear, come on man, get a grip for heaven's sake. I'm sorry to be blunt, but to suggest confiscating someone's computer for committing the "offence" ( :? ) of opening an email attachment is about the daftest idea I've heard in quite some time.

Stamp out crime by punishing the victims? Hmm.... can't see that one flying myself.

I think we have to accept that the designers and distributors of this software are getting much more sophisticated in their attempts to deceive us into downloading their evil offspring.

As potential victims all we can do is to keep our systems up to date with anti virus, firewall and anti spyware and hope that the providers of these systems are on top of the game.

Accidents and errors of judgement such as opening attachments from unknown sources are still likely to happen even to those who should know better (  ). Knives and chisels are very sharp we are all aware that they can cause damage - who has never nicked themselves due to poor judgement or lack of concentration?

Just be careful out there - they are out to get you :D

Cheers :D

I concur mark - apart from being incredibly daft it is also totally impractical as you are reliant on the person in question to report themselves -which is really going to happen

What I would support is confiscating the computers of hackers , phishers, and virus writers, etc and donating those to schools - but unfortunately they are normally based outside UK duristriction

But they're not. Have you not heard about botnets and zombies? Software running on individual and company computers....that has got their because the owners of the PCs are either too damn lazy or too stupid to put anti-virus stuff etc onto their PCs. You're not going to get the hackers or originators but deprive them of their 'resource' as I suggested then the 'engines' that they use to dostribute spam etc are removed.

People are 'victims' first ..which is why I advocated giving them a warning.

I agree with you about the stupidity of not using antivirus software etc (which is about as bright as having indiscriminate sex withou a condom) - however criminalising getting a computer virus would be like locking up aids sufferers - and probably about as well recieved.

education not criminlisation is the key.

But does education work? I don't think so. If education did work then we'd have no drunk drivers, no-one would smoke, no-one would binge drink and there would be no unwanted pregnancies.

Vista antivirus 2008, I do not think this is a virus, it pops up on web pages and appears to start doing a virus check. I had one about 6 months ago and thought it was genuine MS and I had it removed from my system. It even leaves a very realistic icon in the control panel. Yesterday I was looking at a web page for an oil supplier and it poped up, this time I just shut down IE and all appears well. Of course if you click on it you cannot blame your protection software.

Correct, it is rogue anti spyware which has probably been delivered via a trojan - you should make sure that all traces of it a removed from your system.

Plenty of info on the net such as Here
