Hi all,

The results are in from judge Paul Hannaby and I have totted up the entrants' scoring too. So, here we go:-

Judges Scores
1. Dalboy - an elegant box with a good overall shape - 10 points =D> =D>
2. Random orbital Bob - Nicely turned fruit - 8 points
3. Dennisk - A good combination of woods - 6 points
4. Wybrook - Well turned and finished - 4 points
5. Grahamshed - Competent use of the knot technique - 2 points

Well done to all who entered, it wasn't an easy one to judge. =D> =D> =D>

All other entrants get one point each.

Roundup

Paul also make some helpful comments on the photography side of entering the woodturning challenge. Here are his thoughts:

I think some entrants are letting themselves down with the photography so hopefully these general pointers on the photography might be of use...
Include the views of all elements of your entry, not just some of them.
Try to fill the frame with the subject, it helps the camera focus on the right thing and gives your entry more impact.
Avoid cluttered or distracting backgrounds. The plainer the better!
Try to keep the camera still to avoid blurred images.
Make sure what you are photographing is well lit
.

Entrants' Scores

9 out of 10 entrants provided me with their votes. Scores were quite close this month with votes being spread amongst 7 of the 10 entrants; hence three entrants scored equally in third place. Clear winner and second place, though.

1. Grahamshed - 5 points =D> =D>
2. Sheptonphil - 4 points
3= dennisk - 3 points
3= Random Orbital Bob - 3 points
3= Dalboy - 3 points

Overall Scores

1. Dalboy (13 points) =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>
2. Random Orbital Bob (11 points)
3. dennisk (9 points)
4. Grahamshed (7 points)
5. Sheptonphil(5 points)

So, back to your lathes to start on your pot pourri bowl and lid for the June Challenge :lol: :lol:

Well done everyone, I particularly liked Grahams, especially as he's only just started turning, great effort. Had to get straight on YouTube to find out how on earth it was done!

A small addition to the comments on photography - buy a small tripod, even a table top one - it will make a whole lot of difference to your pictures. Car boots are quite good for them.

Well done everyone, I'm afraid I was caught out by the end of the month coming round sooner than expected but it wasn't going to challenge this month's entries.

I liked Graham's too, subtle and classy I thought.

Well done to all that entered I for one enjoy the taking part and look forward to the rest of the year...

Well I am one happy chappie. Starting to think of what to do for the next one I have a couple of ideas

I got more than one point ! - feels like a win ;-)

I think I need a cuppa to celebrate ! (wouldn't want to overdo things)

Now I guess I'll need to make my first lidded box for June ...

Well done all entrants, I was much impressed with Graham's knot too. :)

Well done to all entrants. Lots of really excellent work.
Unfortunately I didn't manage to get mine finished as it was an exceptionaly busy month for me.

Tony
