maths need checking

Just bought a nice plank of beech, but trying to work out the volume and cost is proving too much for me. I cant arrive even close to the same numbers as the woodyard did.
So heres the question;
the plank is 19.3 cm wide x 2.4 cm thick x 2.49 metres long. Calculate the cubic board METRE I have purchased (because thats what the invoice is charged in).

And does anyone know the cost per cubic board METRE of good quality beech planks please?

0.012 cubic metres is the volume.

Or 4.06 cubic feet. NO! edit thanks to gasman, 0.406 cu ft

Agreed with MusicMan re volume in metres but that is only half a cubic foot - not 4 - there are 40 cubic feet to the cubic metre
I get most of my wood from Eynsham sawmills which sells beech at £50 a cubic foot plus VAT. So with the VAT your beech plank would be about £25

Sunnybob - did the woodyard dimension this for you? if so they will have charged you for the volume it was in plank before doing that.

This was just a plank in the warehouse. This particular place has a huge amount of quailty beech, and a pretty big stock of other hardwoods too.

You have to remember I'm a long way from the UK and I pay in euros.

looks like I got a bargain here. their price for a cubic metre is 935 euro plus vat, but my plank came out the door at euro 11.32. Barely a tenner in your money.

Just for info, I bought a piece of iroku and their price for that was euro 1490 plus vat for a cubic metre.

I'm currently seeing prices of about £35-40 a cubic foot (ex vat) for kilned, sawn Beech, the price is pretty much the same for steamed or unsteamed Beech.

A decent percentage of Beech consumed in the UK is home grown, which is tending to keep the price stable. However, imported timber pricing is increasing and for some species it's going haywire. For years American Black Walnut was always around £80 a cubic foot, but in the past few months it's skyrocketed, I'm now seeing ABW prices of £120-140 a cubic foot.

The other thing I'm seeing is a general reduction in quality. Some of it you could have predicted, for a couple of years it's been clear that Wenge supplies are running out, so it's no surprise to now see Wenge quality falling. But some I guess is due to suppliers trying to hold prices by cutting corners, yellow stain on Oak is definitely becoming more prevalent. I can see a price premium being charged by those yards that are doing their own kilning and will stand by their Oak quality, versus those yards that are shopping around for the cheapest sources of ready kilned Oak.
