I have a marjing knife that has one flat side - excellent.

However, the slope on it means it can only be used "one-way".

I've looked at "vee-point" knives but can't be sure that they have one flat side.

Does anybody know of such a thing?

tony made me one for secret santa that was V point with one flat side - i'm sure he could tell you how he did it.

The Ron Hock ones that Mike at Classic hand Tools sells are as you describe.

Hope that helps

Thanks all.

I'm afraid I "don't do metal" so could never make one.

The Ron Hock ones look fab but a bit pricey?

I saw the Axminster one but nowhere does it indicate that one side is flat.

I rather fancy a vee one rather than a pair as I'd be forever changing one for the other.

Why not just grind the marking knife you have into a V?

Regards from Perth

Derek

Alternatively use a "Scandinavian grind" (*), where there is no separate bevel, and both faces of the knife come to an edge.

These can be used (obviously) on either face.

In practice, a close approximation to this ideal is "Good Enough" leading to the use of Opinel or Victorinox (AKA Swiss Army) knives as marking knives.

(*)confirmation of this jargon would be welcomed

You may also want to take a look, here.

That website is almost certainly breaking the law, which requires a physical address and other contact details to be provided somewhere on the site. And if, as I suspect, the 'Great British Tool Company' isn't a company at all, I wouldn't give my money to someone who doesn't provide contact details.

Discussed recently(ish)

If you have a look at the avatar, all the knives have 'V' points and one flat side. The 'V' point also means that it can be used either left or right handed - Rob
