made myself a little coat hanger, it's a bit fat and ugly but it's incredibly strong, I used a maple floor sample that I got a while ago that's been air drying for months.
It's a through mortise and tenon joint for the hook into the back piece and then a wedged tenon to get it into the door, I want this to be permanent so wasn't bothered about it never coming out.
I managed to make the entire thing in the space of a few hours work, added some pics, let me know what you think,
