Making a bed

Looking at making a mid sleeper bed for the kids and I have access to larch and wrc and was wondering if there was any reason that either of these would be unsuitable to use and if not if one would be better to use over the other

I'd use larch as wrc is somewhat soft and is likely to ding or be carved by the kids. Douglas fir would be my choice.

Larch is pretty robust and would be more than strong enough. Was used in boatbuilding. I dont know why but I never saw any furniture made from it so does anyone know why it should not used. I did find some info that due to sap content some finishes may be hard to apply.
