This could well be the last thing done on the AWVSL1000 ......
Steve wanted a WIP so here it is.
Got given a piece of mahogany.
Drilled an 8mm hole and popped it on the Supernova screw chuck.
Roughed out the back leaving a tenon for the chuck. I use a scraper for the square rim as it seems to give me more control when cutting air. I also stop the lathe and check the flat square with a straight edge.
After a bit of a sand
Next the top of the square is done again checking with the straight edge.
Then the bowl is hollowed out and everything sanded.
The corners are marked out with pencil then the power carver(my new favorite toy) is used to carve the pencil lines in.
Now the dremmel is used to texture
The fluffy bits left by the dremmel are sanded off and the textured areas are coloured black with acrylic paint.
Then back on the lathe to finish the base mounting with cole jaws.
The black areas looked a bit harsh so I put a little gold on the top of them to kind of age the look. Then its finished with some Acrylic laquer.
