I have been roped in again to help provide an activity for the kids at the local village fete in July, it has to be wood orientated and must cost vitually nothing.
I am one of about six activities in a gazebo for which the kids pay a nominal sum to do them all, two years ago I had some 75mm. sq. blocks about 22mm thick into which I would partially drill a series of holes to the shape of the childs initial, I would stand brads in the holes and then the child with a pin hammer would drive them home, good fun, great success, not too good last year, as I think they had mostly all done it. I need another thing similar to back it up and make it all worth while, any suggestions would be received gratefully.

Hi Derek, how about you make a few "Harry Potter" magic
wands and get the kid's to paint them.

Hi derek, how about making whistles from green branchwood.Pretty easy and costs nowt. There are also some simple musical instruments that can be made.
Cheers John

It's all got to be very simple, the lathe won't do, whistles is an idea, had another thought on the Harry Potter wands, paint won't work, the kids are all in their best clothes, but if I prepainted the ends white, and got them to wrap the stem in black insulation tape, maybe, what do you think?

Derek, it might be worth giving Nick a shout - he's bound to have some good ideas on getting kids in to woodwork.
