The other day I was browsing around t'internet and was having a look here as I frequently do and I thought that I'd have a go at making one of those as well:

lafafasrf.jpg

Made from rosewood and brass, blade is some of the original HSS blades
from my K419 P/T. Handle is fairly chunky but could idealy be a little longer, still, interesting to make - Rob

This was only a little experiment, but if anyone wants to make an offer for it, give me a PM, I have no :? idea what something like this is worth, so first reasonable offer secures. As I said, handle is a tad small (the rosewood measures 83mm) It's been finished with one coat of oil in the pic and needs another with a bit of wax to finish. It sits well in the hand with the balance of the weight at the front 'cos of the brass inserts around the blade. If it's not going to a good home :( I'll take it into PFT in the week 'cos I've got all the knives I need - Rob

How did you secure the blade in the brass holder?
Chris - the holder is a bit of brass rod polished in the drill press and then sawn in half down the length, smoothed with some sandpaper. The hole in the handle is drilled slightly larger that the dia of the brass, but the blade is an exact fit into the hole. All I did was to insert the blade with a smear of epoxy on each side, a little round the inside of the hole and then push in the two brass blade holders, cleaning off the epoxy that oozes out when partially set. I don't know if this is how BS do it but it seems to work OK - Rob

Rob, I just tapered my brass wedges a little and pushed them in, that way you can lengthen the blade when worn down or fit another one.

Dan - PM me you address and there'll be one in the post for you directly - Rob

The postman brought me a lovely little knife from Rob this morning with a walnut handle. Unfortunately my camera got pinched last week so I can't take a piccy.

I tried to phone and thank Rob but he's in the bloody Falklands!

So if you're reading this Rob, thank you. I've made a little bracket for it and it's hanging in pride of place over my bench.

I promise not to use it for applying filler!

Cheers
Dan

PS I'm all out of 51mm hinges so I'll get some in next week & get them to you hopefully for when you get back.
