There are some good demos by Denib Puchalski on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/user/LieNielsen

For any of you who do stock preparation by hand, watch the one on toothed blades. I met Denib at West Dean last year and saw a demo and since then have used a toothed blade (a bevel-down one) - it really works.

Cheers

I must admit I preferred your demo Paul. Sure, Deneb obviously is employed for his ability to teach, but you don't really click the usefulness of a toothed blade until you see it in the flesh.

Great thanks Paul! I watched the toothed blade one too - very good.

Glad you enjoyed it. You don't need a fancy plane to use a toothed blade. I use a bevel-down blade made by Kunz which I bought from Dick in Germany

With a bevel-down blade, the only problem you have is that it needs a cap iron and because of the grooves in the blade, the shavings will get trapped. I experimented a bit with this and ground some material off the end of the cap iron to get it sufficiently far back (the cap iron serves no purpose in this context other than to enable the blade to be adjusted)

Here it is in my Record #7

Karl uses one in a wooden plane
