Lidl Powerfix chisels back from Nov 4 @ £7.99

Just a heads-up that these are coming back next month. I bought a set of these a few years ago and they’ve been a good set of beater chisels for when I don’t want to risk my nicer ones. For the money they’re hard to pass up.

I found them to be very brittle, the first pack had two with hair line cracks. This is going back about 4 years though

The advice is to grind back a few mm to the "better" steel. I have tried that with a couple of mine now and they don't seem too bad.

The hornbeam handle ones are nice if you can find them.

I have some Stanley blue handle ones I'm trialing ATM. Main improvements are finer beveled edges and a less bulky (but sadly plastic) handle.

Iirc the the ash ones I had were Lidl, the hornbeam Aldi.

Interesting. My Lidl/Powerfix ones are hornbeam. Possibly the same supplier switching wood depending on availability...

I might have them the wrong way around - I had a set of each. I rehandled the the ash set with London pattern handles in padauk for S/S a couple of years ago.
