Roger, how big an area are you looking to light? do you need to just walk in that area without tripping over things or read a book type brightness?
We're about 200metres from the nearest street light, have an assortment of halogen, LED (10w 20w 30w) and some auto lights that have the 22w low energy bulbs... even the 10w LED (10 x 1w LED in an alloy housing) is enough to throw light 30metres, enough to walk without tripping over things. The low energy bulbs take a few seconds to come up to speed and full power in about a minute, but they have been very good value. Lots cheaper than LED. they came from one of the big retailers..
