4 speeds! Bleeding luxury that is. I started with a 3 speed Record. Still did the job and I basically learned turning on it. I did trade up after a year not because of the 3 speed but I wanted to turn larger lumps of wood. Current lathe is still belt change but.a couple of extra pullies. Doing fine after 18 years of use and will likely see me out.RegardsJohn
