My Record DML 305 was working fine turning a 5 in bowl when all of a sudden it emitted a screeching noise, smoke and burning smell. I removed the motor and the shaft turns freely by hand and the capacitor doesn't look incinerated. I connected it again to the mains and it tripped the mcb so something is not right in the innards, yet the resistance across L and N motor leads is about 200 ohms.

Any ideas?

The smell and smoke are usually associated with the burning of the insulation between the windings in the motor. There is no way back from that. The screeching noise could be due to something in the motor coming loose and damaging the windings.

Replacement motor is my bad news.
