John,

I think correct word is jealous, of the time you have used so well making a nice selection of pens. Well done sir. =D>

very nice john - do you sell them ?

If so pm me as i could well be interested in a couple.

Well, all I can say is they are all GREAT. I was interested in the Gorse. Friend of mine turned some gorse (a cup I think) and well it (the wood) looked cr.p. But your pen has turned  out very nice. The other that I think you have done well with is the wenge. You won't run out of ink. =D> =D>

That Zebrano's nice John! ;)

You've certainly caught the pen bug mate. How was club today?

Very jealous, lovely work I REALLY want to try some pens when funds allow. I love the purple heart with highlights how is this done please?

Matt

Thanks Gents you are most generous.
Roger,
Some I bought from Allen (Blister) a part of one of his job-lots.
The others are from 'Timberbits' in Australia.
Malcolm,
The Wenge was cut about 20 degrees from the grain line, not parallel.
It turn quite well but I did have sharpen frequently. I also had two extractors and a mask
The Zebrano is courtesy of Tom (Wizer) who kindly donated a piece last week. Thank you Tom.
B.T.W. Couldn't go today, was busy.
Matt,
Take a blank bandsaw in half at 45 degrees. Glue the first piece of Traffolyte betwwen them.
When it's stuck saw it again through the centre of the first Traffolyte in the opposite direction.
glue the second piece of Traffolyt between them to make a cross.
Then drill the hole for the tube, glue it in and turn as per normal.

Just one question though. I post them as a thumbnail, when I click on them to enlarge them the pic appears to me very poorly. Does the pic look poor/bad to you?

Not sure what it is they look a little fuzzy on the edges of the pens what resolution did you take them at.

Regards Roger

I'm not fan of photobucket, but the image looks fine to me, you need to click on it to get the full size.

Have look at the pictures again and they seem to be fine now perhaps it a problem with Photo Bucket.

That`s better, i can see them all now.
They look lovely John, i particularly like the cherry ones, i must try it myself.
Great job well done.

hi john
superb looking set there mate, i think the hawthorn is amazing and it does it for me.
i really like the streamline kit, think it makes a great looking pen.

I also prefer the hawthorn one. Don't know why more people don't use it, hedges are fiull of it and it has gorgeous grain as this pen nicely demonstrates, a nice hard texture as well. Make sure it's dry though as it does have a tendency to split.

A fine selection of pens there John 8) I would never have thought things like Gorse an Broom were any good for turning but they have turned out well for you =D>

Thank you guys for your comments, for a novice pen turner (me) it's appreciated.
It is all down to my artist brother-in-law who lives in Chester-le-street nr Durham. He does a lot of fell walking and seems to know all the coppice cutters and land managers and gets all manner of woods.
He drys it then cuts bits off, stuffs it into a jiffy bag with a note saying can you turn this or that.
Some of the wood he sends me is quite fantastic, for example the coloured gorse is a part of the root and explains how it grows then stops and starts growing through itself and turns out like a burr.
I have some Rhododendron, Alder, Elder, and some Spalted Gorse which he says is very rare, all waiting to be turned.
But it does keep me off street corners.
