My Veritas BU Jack is without doubt my favorite plane (ask Woodbloke). One of the features I really like is the adjustable mouth, a twist of the front tote and instant adjustment. However I have got into the habit of opening the mouth to clear any shavings, open the mouth quick blow and then close. Anyway I was planing some stock yesterday and it would not come flat it was concave very unusual, so I checked the sole, the front sole that moves was well above the rest of the sole. Removed the front sole and there I found the problem it was impacted with thick dust and shavings, cleaned it plane perfect. So my habit of opening the mouth to blow away debris, can find its way under the front sole particularly if you loosen the front tote to much, anyway I thought it may be worth a mention. Great plane love it.
