in a few months we are going to make our own cuboard door fronts because it is in the planing stages and don't have much money can we use normal MDF or MR MDF because i need about 4 sheets of 12mm MDF.

is eggshell the best paint to paint them with

If you are having just flat flush door you will need 18mm thick boards preferably MR MDF.

A waterbased primer/undercoat then two coats of oilbased eggshell will do nicely.

still go with the MR, its so much easier to finish, the extra £3 a sheet will be paid for with the saving on glasspaper

Bob,

I agree with Jason go with the MR it is perfect for painted doors, it is also harder and will stand up to knocks better than standard MDF.

On the painting side I would use oil based primer as it soaks into the
MDF and flows far better than waterbased primer, also sanding and denibbing is far easier on oil based primer.

Good luck

Paul

what about your hinges, i think 12mm is to thin for normal blum hinges but maybe you have butts.
