I recently completed a kist (or blanket chest). The carcase wood is Curly Marri, with Jarrah for the base. The Curly Marri was extraordinarily difficult to work with hand tools, which were used for 90% of this build.

One of the features of this kist is my continuing interest in secret drawers ...

The drawer has 1 1/4" (30mm) of internal depth. This should be plenty for a thick book or several magazines.

It's a sad indictment on your homelife when you have to secrete your woodwooking magazines in secret drawers!!

But seriously, very nice work indeed, well done. How much time did you spend on this project?

How much time did you spend on this project?

I probably spent as much time fussing over the preparation of the boards as the build, itself. In all, about 6 weekends.

I wonder how long it would have taken others? More, less?

I have no doubt it's beautiful in the flesh - chatoyance does not photograph well - but in the photos it looks like you didn't plane/sand the re-saw marks out!!
