Hi all,

Have been trying to source juniper wood to make chopping boards e.t.c to no avail, I live in south Devon, anyone know where I might be able to source it?

Regards

Sacha

Sacha,

Any particular reason you need Juniper - Beech is the normal option. I throught jusniper was a large bush so getting decent size pieces may be a problem and certainly not from a large dealer anthough I may be completely wrong on this.

Ok, just wanted it for the smell, inch wide pieces max, I shall continue my search!

Kind regards

Isn't it the same as Red Cedar?

I believe it is marketed as eastern redcedar. I would have thought that it would be rather soft for a chopping board.

I've worked with the cedar that you get for doing house cladding. I think it was red and it had the best smell of any wood I've ever worked with.

FWIW, Juniper used to be one of the most popular woods in the country many years ago, ..................as in many many years ago :D . It's brilliant for carving and turns very well also.

It looks very similar to Yew with it's varying grain & colour, most people would be hard pressed to tell the difference.....................until you smell it :D .

Alas it's getting very scarce now :( . and expensive.
