Main character in Stephen King's 'It'. The clown is called pennywise so still not sure it works
I never saw the movie, but as I recall from the novel, "IT" is the name of the creature. Pennywise the Clown is just one of the manifestations the creature assumes, but there were others, depending on what the victims feared. The clown was the most frequent manifestation since apparently more children are afraid of clowns than spiders or snakes.
