Ahh yes, the slight iconoclast Cleese. Broadly, I agree, but it does then get diverted by consideration of types of humour. Belly laugh, juxtapositional (thank you, Alexi Sayle), whether you consider mocking disabilities as 'humour', .

Humour expressed as approval of killing, depictions of blood flow ( see early Monty Python!), poorly executed parodies of gently satirical and well produced comedies just doesn't cut it. Gawd, "cut it"? Sorry.
