That looks lovely, very nicely done. I really like the use of contrasting timbers, it works very well. :)

Beautiful piece of work, and excellent choice of timbers - really work well together!

That's a bloody good idea, small, high quality, straight grained pieces of timber, how did you cut them into strips and plane then flat or were they left rough and trimmed back when glued in?

Aidan

bandsawed them to size then blockplaned them. sanded them down after gluing.

I have bought ebony tuning blanks and re sawn them, it was cheaper than buying ebony boards. :?
They are a very useful source of small bits of exotic timber. 8)

Nice looking box, I like the idea of the mirror in the lid, I want to do this for some boxes I am making but having difficulty sourcing some mirror glass cut to the correct size, how did you go about this.
Any info from anyone would be very helpful.

I have had mirrors cut to size by Abbey Glass in Derby, which is not a million miles from you if you're in Leicester.

That said, I had always assumed that most glass merchants do it, but never looked anywhere else as I have the aforementioned one near me that does do it.

Cheers, Ed.

try your local gazier. the piece i used only cost about £3 ish.

size was spot on which i was bit worried about coz some of the glass i get is terrible size wise lol.
