Just had mine delivered today.

Spent most of the day setting up proper 16A outlets with a new consumer unit (all part P, obviously). Then cleaning off the gunk and carnauba waxing the tables.

I notice that since Mark W's post the design of the fence has changed. It is now machined, and doesn't have the grooves on it that it used to have. I also notice that the locking and thicknesser drive handles are no longer zinc passivated. (they may be galvanised, but I can't be bothered to go back to the workshop to check now)

The fence appears fairly flat using my engineers square, there is a slight hint of concavity, but not enough to get a feeler gauge in. It might be my engineers square, which has had a bit of an abused life.

If I was to criticise anything, it would be that the man who stuck the angle sticker on the fence was out by a few degrees. Given that it will be set at 90 degrees with a square for 95% of the time, this shouldn't be an issue.

Now I just need to make some more shavings and see how I get on.

Congrats Paul, I hope you'll be as happy with it as I am with mine (early gripes not discounted).

Interesting to hear they've altered the fence design, any chance of a piccie or 2 so I can see the difference? Have the mounting plates for the fence been altered as well I wonder? - they were the source of the biggest disappointment for me since they require the fence to be reset to square every time it is moved to a different position on the tables.

Overall though a brilliant piece of kit, and if you got your's at the recent special price all I can say is.....

Here is a picture of the fence, clearly machined, and without the grooves any more:

When you say "mounting plates for the fence" do you mean the surfaces of the table that the fence bolts down to, or the white supporting structure of the fence?

Also forgot to say that I was very pleased to see it is now back at full price in the new APTC catalogue.
:D

No not the flats on the table, since they're ground, but the big folded steel bits that slide on them and support the bottom edge of the fence and the arms for adjusting the angle.
Is the fence aluminium still? When I was having all my talks with Jet/Axminster the concensus was that the existing ally item couldn't be machined because cutting through the anodised finish would remove the hardened surface.
