Hi All

As per title, does anyone who has the Jet 3520B know what thread is used on the big chunky live centre supplied with the lathe. (the thread exposed when the pointed end is removed to expose the ring centre)

I want to make a few custom centres to fit on the thread and get a tap to match. I know the US version, Powermatic PM3520B has an imperial thread at the headstock end and ours is supplied with the metric 33mm. The US live centre has a 3/4 x 10 thread, would jet have also changed this thread to a metric one for the European market?

Thanks

Phil

I cannot remember the thread size Phil but when I was trying to do the same thing I couldn't find anything ( big nuts ) with the same thread size. I ended up using my Axi evolution live centre for that but I have to say that the Jet one is much better.

Why the need to thread, why is a good push fit over the threaded portion or one of the existing centres not sufficient to hold adaptors in place and aligned until engaged?

Hi all.

Thanks for the responses.

Cheers Jon, I will get one, found one for a fiver.

For my previous live centres I did just friction fit them over the live centre. I have made several threaded holders, jam chucks etc for the 33mm headstock using a Beale tap and find them brilliant. The friction fit over the live centre are ok, I just thought for the fiver or so for the tap it would be worth making cones etc for ball turning and various pressure plates for reverse bowl support. Probably totally unnessary but I enjoy the making of these type of jigs and the large Jet live drive is a really nice drive unit to build on.

Graham, got the beast up to the workshop, all set up and really enjoying throwing some heavy chunks of wood at it, although the first thing turned last week was a bottle stopper, so hardly stretching its capabilities.

Happy days

Weird that isn't it. I have just made a 15 inch platter but the vast majority of the stuff I make is little boxes etc. :)
