...that with a little work a half decent plane can be made to work well. I had to do some fettling on the drawers on my table, so before I broke the No 5 out I thought I'd check the blade - as it was needed for fine finishing work on cherry. Fairly blunt so out with the Veritas honing guide, onto the 1200 grit wet stone and then a polish on the 8000 grit stone. Bit of frog adjustment and with a little bit of fiddling my Groz from Axminster was producing shavings like these:
