My Dewalt palm sander has gone - it's about four years old and started playing up, first of all cutting out, then starting and stopping straight away. Now it won't start at all. Is it ever economically viable to get power tools like this fixed, or is is just as cheap o buy a new one?

You might find it is little more than the mains lead having fractured at the strain relief. An easy DIY repair to shorten the lead by a few inches.
Either that or worn brushes - another easy repair.

hi, take for example a dw411, at worst the dearest part is around £28 being for a new armature but it could be something so simple like the switch which would be around £5. which model is it exactly as although a repair would be cheaper it could be that its near the end of its life anyway & there are some good deals about for a new one, so although you could end up with a new motor the ring bearings could be due to pass their sell by date a few months down the line i'd take the casing apart firstly though & look for anything obvious like a loose connection, i had a festool once which one day decided to only work upside down due to a poor connection! :)
