I had some old pallet boards given to me and have been trying to identify the wood (see my other post)
https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/view ... hp?t=12361
the main consensus is that it is Iroko

When I had planed the wood I cut it to length to take out the screwholes this left me with a few odd ends about 8" long not wanting to waste any I glued 2 pieces together and cut out a 8" circle on the bandsaw.

I then had my first attempt at turning a Platter/Shallow Bowl

I am quite pleased with the outcome as it's my first attempt at this type of work but I wish I had matched the grain better as it seems to emphersise the join
Whats your opinion do you still think its Iroko?

Phil

Very nice platter and it is iroko  :)
With all these platters being turned, I think I will have to have to go :)

As for the joint

I think it stands out also because there is still some of the weathered iroko on one side of the join :)

I hope my first attempt comes out as good :)
