I made a gate out of Iroko and decided to be a little different and use copper pipe as a feature. Interested to hear your comments

Someone will pinch the copper after they run out of srtealing railway cabling and war memorials. Best wishes.

PS the treatment should do the job. Smart looking gates by the way.

Sorry they don't mix for me.....but the gate (Iroco bit) looks gorgeous. I think it's because it's pretty obviously copper pipe. Still not too late to cut them out and put a couple of beads along top and bottom trapping some iroko slats. 10 out of 10 for imagination (sorry really don't mean to sound condescending). I'd have the gate on my house happily, we're due a new side gate before the winter....given me food for thought.

Thanks for the feedback. I finished it with 3 coats of Teak Oil

It is very substantial and I suspect it will last a good few years

Really smart woodwork there. Treating copper hopefully has solved any weathering issues.... Apart from that though as you already know it's upto you how it looks and your individual taste, which is why you have made and finished it the way you have.

That's lovely. Very very nice. Like the contrasting plugs as well.

Just out of interest, how long was the entire build?

What sort of hinges will you be using to hang it? Will you try (somehow) to match the colour of the copper or go for something completely different. Not sure what would work better.

I did a few hours here and there, but I reckon all in it was less than 2 full days

My friend hung the gate at the weekend using cheap black hinges with a chrome bolt drilled through the front of the gate. Not what I would have done, but the biggest sin of all is that he put the gate latch on the top rail and didn't even bother to centre it. It looks so wrong!

I will post a picture so that I can share my pain. I reckon it won't be long and he will have creosoted it :-(
