Interesting Workbench

Here's an interesting take on a workbench, it's got a few novel and inventive features. I guess it would best suit a chairmaker or carver, I like the way the Emmert style vice is left proud so that it can be rotated without the workpiece fouling on the bench edge.

It's an interesting concept but it leaves me a little cold but whatever floats your boat ;-)

Afraid its not my cup of tea. Too many things going on trying to master everything and I would think steam bending on your bench would be a good way to make it warp very nicely.

I like the horizontally mounted vice... I've been playing with the idea of doing something similar with a spare cast iron record vice for some time, I may just give it a go at some point (seen as I have an excess of benches and vices).

But if he'd not uploaded them as 40-80second snippets, he'd probably have a reasonable number of videos.

Actually, I suppose it's just vices... The benches are all different heights, one for planing, one for chopping and sawing, and one for assembly. The assembly bench doesn't need a vice, and the others both have two already (must swop them round so each has one QR and one normal vice when I get the chance), so somewhere in boxes of other miscellanea, I have a spare vice.

I wouldn't want to ruin either of the benches I like so much though... I guess I'll have to build another small one to explore the full utility of a vertically mounted vice (which I resolved earlier, cannot be a QR one, my fingers would never forgive me).

Certainly a bench trying to do everything, part joinery bench part mft and a few bits inbetween. Think if I had that much different work going on I'd be able to afford a bigger place and have more than one bench :wink:
