I have a double garage from which I work from. I am a hobbyist and not a business, the value of my tools / other contents is prob close to £12k. Contacted my insurance company the other day to check how much i was insured for and they stated the max they coulf pay out was 5k (per claim) and could not increase this figure even if increaseing the premium. We are with direct line home insurance. Anyone else recommend a company or give advice? To improve cover or better company cheers!

I'm with legal and general and their system works on a percentage basis. They allow 10% of the total contents cover amount for the shed or outbuilding. I.e if you have £60000 of cover then your shed is covered up to £6000.
HTH

Some of te machines may be too heavy to lift out by the odd burglar, so if your garage is secure, attached to your home and with alarms, would it ALL GO at one time? You could consider a good lockable cabinettet for some tools?

Fire?

I was with Lloyds who have a limit of 2500 for a garage,

Switched to Allianz who have no limit as considered part of the househould contents.

Cheers guys going give Allianz a call see what the crack is and if it can be an out building or attached to be included as household as my garage is not connected to the house.
