After my request for something to inspire me, Cordy managed to get me interested in the norm abrams adirondack chair.

I had a couple stumbles along the way, but here it is, just before painting (ongoing).

Its been a success as far as the treasurer is concerned, but now she wants the norm abrams matching table and double love seat as well.
Anybody got plans for these?
I have tried to buy from the norm site but they dont email, they send complete plans through the post.
From america to cyprus could be anywhere from 5 weeks to never, so I'm looking for some instant gratification please.

That looks perfect for your climate Bob, didn't you make a pair?

Now you've got your head round the manufacturing method/style would it be too difficult to draw up your own plans, or are the ones you're referring to a bit different?

Mike, I followed the linked plans from my last thread. I was not sure if it would meet approval or not, but I made solid templates of each piece just in case.
It surprised both of us as to how comfortable it is.
Its actually gone down quite well, so I have the templates to make a second one, but now I've been tasked with the whole double seat and table thing and of course they need to match this one.

I could modify the originals, but as I'm not good at planning ahead thats a lot of trial and error which will just be wasting wood.
I was happy to pay the $10 for his plans, but they are only hard copy, not a PDF file. Summer would be gone even here before those plans crossed half the world to me.

looks good.

I'm in Cyprus at the end of this month if you want to get the plans sent to me in the UK (and they get here in time) and I'll bring them with me, got 3 days in Nicosia for work if it's any use. :)

I keep reading this so it must be true, but aren't they very low? I think it would take me five minutes to stand up from that position.

Anybody remember "Jakes Chair", one of the earliest 'net sensations. We didn't even use the term viral back then.

I've made a few, they are definitely the most comfortable wooden chair you'll ever sit in.

They are comfortable while you are in them. Between that comfort and the difficulty getting out of it, you just want to stay where you are. :D

Bob, you could just make the seat slats and other side-to-side parts longer and and duplicate the back slats to make a loveseat version.

Novocaine, thanks for the offer, but I'm an impatient so and so and want to get on with it asap. Then if they dont arrive in time and then have to be posted on I've gained nothing. If you have an evening spare when youre there i could travel up and we could have a meal, I'm only just about an hour from nicosia central. PM me if you want to.

Mike, It is quite low, but is extremely comfortable and the arms are good aides to help you get up. If you have dicky knees though then maybe its not for you.

Brentingby, Yes it would not be too hard to adapt to double seats, but i have to admit that if i could get plans quickly i would be happier. it would save all the guesswork of new sizes and bracing for cross members as I dont want it to fail under load, but also dont want to make it so heavy it cant be moved.
I've asked on a couple of american forums for help in sourcing them. Dont mind paying the $10 to a worthy cause, just dont want to wait months.

In the real world this table is a good match for your chair

See how I tucked in the lower bits M & J :)

That might work for the table base. But she has decided she wants the rounded edge like wot Norm made. i can cut the curve no probs, but that double seat cross member is whats causing the problem. She originally wanted a big system with two chairs connected to a central table, but we dont have room for that

Well done Bob, that's a real piece of furniture and it looks like you made a neat and tidy job of it.

=D>

No, wait, I get praise from Custard? For FURNITURE?
I am NOT worvey yer 'onour, 'onest.

(good job he cant see it close up)

But seriously, thanks all for the positive comments. Its a big change from music boxes, thats for sure.

Still no plans forthcoming, so it looks like I'm going to have to wing it on the love seat.

Can I make a constructive suggestion?

You appear to have a hard edge behind the knee. I've not made dozens of these, but a few, and I have found that it is a good idea to "round over' the top end of the sloping leg. Faceted is a better word, a series of two or three flat edges om which to bed the slats. It makes for a much more comfortable leg position.

My own are in a friends garden some distance away, or I would take a photo.

Nice work on matching the two curved seat slats either side of the back. I do that, too.

Steve, I had a set of plans to follow (g) Cant claim too much credit for design.

I also wondered about that sharp front edge while I was building it, but it doesnt affect me (6ft 2") or my wife (5ft 8") so I'll leave it alone. Possibly if someone was vertically challenged it might need to be rounded over.
